Le Festival des Cabanes

2020
Faverges-Seythenex, France
Competition

The place for our wooden cabin was located in the commune of Faverges-Seythenex in France, behind the church and on the way to the grotto and waterfall.
At the first glance, our group noticed an amazing landscape and a gradient of layers in the nature: a path, trees in the foreground, a slope and trees located further away, and mountains in the background.

We decided to locate our cabin along the way to create a moment of pause for the passersby to relax and admire the view and than continue the way. The cabin with its shape creates a frame of view towards the landscape to emphasize the presence of layers on the mountainous terrain. The steps are 480 mm long to be able to stop and percieve the view at a different angle through wooden elements that resemble the verticality of the trees around, create a bright atmosphere and a play of light and shadow. Each plateform represents a different layer in the landscape.
